Something to do when not at the Olympics this summer in London—shopping in Soho ideas?

Visiting London for the Summer Olympics?  Want an experience that's slightly off-the-beaten path - or want to avoid the Olympics altogether?   Travel with Carnet has suggestions of where to stay, things to do, and where to eat for the traveler seeking alternatives to the usual tourist options.

Soho Shopping
Have a few hours that aren't planned around the Olympic events?  Here's a guide of things to do broken out by neighborhood for a quick tour of what London has to offer-there's something for the cultural enthusiast, for the fashionista, and for the history buff.

The Landmark Hotel
Rather than booking accommodations right by Olympic Park, try the The Landmark, located between Hyde Park and Regent's Park.  Ideally situated for a quick drive over to the stadium, The Landmark is also close to various London tourist destinations such as Oxford Street and Buckingham Palace for a best-of-both-worlds experience.

Palmer's Restaurant
For a respite from the tourist-oriented fast food and fish n' chips options, try Palmers Restaurant, a short 3 miles from Olympic Park.  Palmers serves modern British food, which includes charcuterie plates, steaks, and a few seafood options in a casually elegant environment.

Avoiding the Olympics
Trying to hail a cab in the sea of Olympic tourists may be neigh impossible.  Traverse London on foot; Travel with Carnet has a number of walking guides and shortcuts.
